Proper installation is key to ensuring the performance and lifespan of linear bearings.
1. Press Fit
Method: Use interference fit to press the linear bearing's outer sleeve into the machined housing hole. Benefits: High rigidity, compact design, and precise alignment. Note: Control the pressing force and concentricity to avoid deforming the outer sleeve to keep internal clearances.
2. Flange Mounting
Method: Use the bearing's flange and secure it to the machining surface with screws. Advantages: Easy to install and remove, no need for precise machining on the mounting holes, and the position can be changed. Caution: The surface has to be even, and the screws have to be tightened crosswise.
3. Bearing Housing Installation
Method: Insert a standard linear bearing in a split or in one piece bearing housing (linear bearing housing) and then secure it with the housing. Benefits: More support with alignment adjustment, absorption of shock, and bearing protection.
Selection Considerations: Technical Checklist
When choosing linear bearings, systematically evaluate the following parameters:
1. Load Capacity
Basic Dynamic Load Rating (C): The constant load of a specific magnitude and direction that the bearing can withstand during its rated life. This is the main criterion for selection.
Basic Static Load Rating (Co): The maximum load the bearing can endure while stationary or at extremely low speed without permanent deformation.
Load Direction: Linear bearings mainly withstand radial loads. For moment or combined loads, calculate the equivalent load and consider using multiple bearings or double-sleeve type bearings.
2. Accuracy and Clearance
Accuracy Grade: Choose based on the straightness and parallelism requirements of the shaft. Standard grade (normal) meets most applications, while precision and ultra-precision grades are used for high-demand equipment such as machine tools.
Internal Clearance: Divided into standard clearance (C0) and zero clearance (Z). Zero-clearance bearings provide backlash-free motion through preloading, but friction and temperature rise will slightly increase.
